I knew about the giving of muguets as I had a French neighbour who had a huge patch of it in her garden and always gave me a bunch of the fabulously-scented flowers on 1st May (I dug a clump up after she died and have it still in my garden)but I didn't know about the French using that date to celebrate Labour Day. I had to smile because we have French friends of many years standing and they joke that going on strike is the third most popular pastime for the French, after hunting and cycling!I'm going to pop out in the garden now and see if my lily-of-the-valley is going to flower in time for 1st May.Linda Mitchelmorehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10948518126405880012noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3855283511538601375.post-16607874339708918112018-04-21T17:37:23.490+01:002018-04-21T17:37:23.490+01:00Lilly-of-the -valley was my Guernsey grandmother&#...Lilly-of-the -valley was my Guernsey grandmother's favourite flower.
